The Where, When, Who

Welcome to our Website!

In the past few weeks since our first newsletter, our team has been hard at work on all things Grace Chapel Knoxville. We are excited to announce our website is now live! This site design is done in a blog format, and is a great way for you to follow the journey as we move towards Knoxville. We will utilize this blog to keep our friends in Franklin in the loop as well as to communicate with folks living in Knoxville who would like to stay up to date on details as we progress in establishing the church. You can look forward to progress updates, photos, and videos as well as information regarding times & locations of any gatherings and Bible studies. We will also keep you informed as we move ahead establishing regular Sunday worship services. Have fun exploring the site!

Knoxville Friends: If you live in the Knoxville area, we would love to hear from you. For now you can contact us through this website by phone or email – we would love to start getting to know you as well as answer any questions you may have. Ultimately we can’t wait to meet in person, so as soon as we get settled at the end of January we’d love to schedule a time to do that!

Franklin Friends: If you would like to hear more about our heart and vision, please join Pastor Jake Spencer and team for breakfast at GC, Leiper’s Fork. Over the next 4 Sundays – December 27th, January 3rd, 10th, & 17th – you can join Pastor Jake in the fellowship hall at 8:30a & 10:30a to chat about the church plant. We’d love to have you stop by for a visit!

The Where, When, Who…

A lot of folks have asked about our meeting location for Sunday services as well as when those services will commence. The short answer is we don’t know yet! We have been planning and exploring options over the past several months, but our desire is to settle into the community and start forming friendships to better learn the area before making a final decision on where exactly to meet.

However, we can say the West Knoxville area is where we are focusing the search. Most likely we are looking to meet in a local school or community center.

We have three families committed to the launch team so far. You can read a brief bit about us on the “Our Story (http://gracechapelknoxville.net/our-story-2/) ” page of the website. We are all on slightly different timelines as we buy & sell homes, move our families, and finalize job details. We do know the Spencers are set to move to Knoxville the weekend of January 22nd. Once settled in they plan on meeting with people right away- starting up some home group bible studies. If you are interested then as mentioned above, please reach out to us and we’ll keep you posted as we solidify plans.

Prayer Update:

In our last newsletter we asked if you would join us in prayer for God’s timing. Well, on Sunday morning December 13th Jake was preaching what will most likely be his last Sunday sermon at Grace Chapel Leiper’s Fork. Meanwhile, a family had arranged to view the Spencer’s house that had been on the market since a little before Thanksgiving. So during the 11:11am service as Jake taught on Jesus being Our King (http://gracechapelknoxville.net/2015/12/22/the-incarnation-part-3-the-king/) , the Spencer’s home was having a showing. By that evening, they had received an offer on their home from that family, and 24 hours later the house was under contract! Talk about the Lord’s perfect timing! Just as one season was coming to an end, the Lord was arranging for the sale of their home, paving the way for the next step towards Knoxville. Thank you Jesus for faithfully answering prayer, and thank you friends for praying with us!

“The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” -Deuteronomy 31:8

Please agree with us in prayer for…

People: Pray with us that we would begin to make personal connections with people in Knoxville as we get closer & closer to making this move. Also, as the Spencers wrap up their last few weeks in Franklin, pray the Lord would continue to move on anyone’s heart He may be calling to join us in moving to Knoxville. Pray for the Spencers, Hawkins, and Richmonds as we all move at slightly different times. Our prayer is for us all to keep our hearts knit to Him as well as to one another through the difficulty of transition.

Timing: As our families continue the process of moving please pray the Lord would cover every detail from the selling and buying of homes, to providing jobs as needed. The Richmonds and Hawkins will be listing their houses shortly after the first of the year, and beginning the process of finding new homes in Knoxville.

Location: Our prayer remains the same here- we really want to hear from God regarding the “where.” We feel He is giving us more and more direction and clarity with each step forward and we are honing in on the West Knoxville area. Now, we are praying for very specific direction on where the church should meet and when we should start Sunday services. Family: As we approach the holidays, the reality of having our last Christmas in Franklin, TN is very bittersweet. We are leaving behind life-long relationships as part of this move. Please pray for our kids as they say good-bye to schools, family, and friends. Our prayer is that the Lord would lead us to shepherd our children’s hearts well as we transition to our new home in Knoxville.

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:23

Merry Christmas!

As hard as it may be to believe, 2015 is already coming to a close. It has been a year of seeking after and waiting upon the Lord, and our hearts are full thinking back over all God has done. We are excited for what is to come, but also taking time to pause and ponder the journey to this point. We hope you may also find the space in your own Christmas season to reflect back over your year and all God has walked through with you. May our memorial stones from 2015 pave the path to a new year of adventure following hard after Jesus. Merry Christmas!

Your friends,

Jake and the Grace Chapel Knoxville team
